Five of the best Mulan toys

The release of Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan had been ten years in the making before finally being released in September.

There have been many reasons why this film have been a bit different to the normal Disney release. Firstly, the film was released on Disney+ rather than in cinemas due to COVID-19.

Then of course is the controversy that has surrounded the film in regards to comments from leading actress Yifei Liu.

However, one thing that Mulan does have in common with all other Disney films is a diverse selection of fun toys that fans of the movie can add to their Christmas lists!

We’ve taken a look at some of the best Mulan toys available in the UK, using our experience to help you to buy Toys Kids Love.

Disney Princess Royal Shimmer Mulan

Recommended age range: 3 years+

This is a really good value doll, as can be said of all of Disney’s Royal Shimmer range.

Standing 10.5 inches tall (26.5cm), the doll comes complete with a sparkling skirt, tiara and a pair of shoes, all of which can be removed.

Pros: Kids will have fun styling her long hair.

Cons: Would be good if it came with a smaller companion, but this is very much a basic range of dolls which is reflected in the low price.

LEGO Mulan Storybook Adventures Playset

Recommended age range: 5 years+
Pieces: 124

This is a really well-designed set that folds up to take the form of a book. There are others in the series including Belle, Ariel and Frozen, making these a great addition to a set of shelves in a kids room.

Once opened up, each ‘page’ of the book creates a different scene from the animated film; a garden scene on the left and a winter training ground on the right.

The set includes two different versions of Mulan along with many other characters and accessories to make this a really engaging set.

Pros: Lots of characters and accessories, imaginative design.

Cons: Designed to be portable but the fastening isn’t the best.

Mulan Activated Sounds 22″ Sword

Recommended age range: 3 to 6 years

This is a really nice replica toy of the sword used in the 2020 film, complete with engraved symbols and tassel.

The sounds are activated as the sword is swung around. The handle allows for a good grip, although how appropriate it is will depend on the temperament of the child using it.

Pros: Good attention to detail, batteries included (3 x button cell).

Cons: Shame it doesn’t include a sheath so that the sword can be attached to a costume.

Disney Princess Warrior Moves Mulan Doll

Recommended age range: 3 years+

Another toy from the 2020 film, this is a more gritty Disney Princess Mulan doll that shows the warrior side of Mulan that is often under-represented in toys.

When her legs are squeezed together, the top half of her body rotates from right to left, allowing her to swing the sword in her right hand.

She has much shorter hair than the earlier Disney Princess doll that we featured – maybe a swing of the sword too far!

Pros: Reflects the character of Mulan as more than a princess, but a warrior.

Cons: She doesn’t have anyone to fight – look out Barbie!

Funko Pop Disney Mulan Vinyl Figure

Recommended age range: 5 years+

We’re pretty sure that there is a Funko Pop doll for every movie character in the history of cinema – or at least that’s how it feels!

This Funko Pop Mulan figure is nicely designed, complete with gold earrings, a fan and a flowing boa around her arms.

As well as this one, there are unsurprisingly lots of other figures from the Mulan films available:

Pros: Lots of attention to detail.

Cons: Younger kids may get bored of it as it doesn’t do anything.
